Hay Meadow Camping on Dartmoor

Hay Meadow Camping on Dartmoor

Our Hay Meadow camping field is only open for camping in the summer.  It slopes downhill from the car park to the river.  Remember cars must be left in the car park but we provide barrows and trolleys to help you move your equipment.  Each pitch has its own level area separated from its neighbour by the grass of the hay meadow which we keep unmown as biodiversity corridors.  In the height of summer the field is rich with wild flowers, butterflies and bees.

You can have campfires in the Hay Meadow and there are fire pits and fire baskets for you to use.  Please keep BBQs off the ground to protect the ground.

These pitches are priced per pitch based on 4 people and include the hot showers and toilets, extra people are charged per person.  You can have as many tents, shelters etc as you like on the pitch but these should be at least 3 metres apart for safety reasons.  If they are too close together we will ask you to pay for another pitch.  The dimensions given are for the largest rectangle that can be fitted on the pitch, but as the pitches are not rectangular they are typically quite a bit bigger than this.

Every pitch has its own unique character, so click on the pitch names below to see the descriptions.  Then when you book if you want a particular one, do please let us know and we’ll do our best to accomodate your request.

If this sounds too busy and noisy for you then our Nearly Wild Pitches might be your taste.

Orange

Bell tent on Hay Meadow Orange PitchApprox size: 10 x 6 m

Situated at the top of the Hay Meadow, the orange pitch is conveniently located close to the car park, the washing up sink, drinking water tap and recycling area.  The downside is that it is also closer to the road.  The pitch is L-shaped so there is an additional area not included in the measurements.

The pitch is sheltered by the trees and hedgeline as shown in the picture.  Being higher up the hillside  it has a good view and keeps the sun longer in the evening
