Moretonhampstead, Dartmoor, Devon – Wray Valley, a small B&B and campsite nestled in 10 acres of temperate broadleaved woodland on Dartmoor, is thrilled to announce its success at the prestigious Devon Tourism Awards (21st November 2024). The business, founded and run by Kevin and Michelle for the past five years, won the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Business Gold Award, adding to co-owner Michelle’s recent Devon Women in Business’ Eco-Friendly Business Award win just 2 weeks earlier.

In addition to this outstanding achievement, Wray Valley was also awarded Bronze in both the B&B and Campsite categories, further solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for eco-conscious travellers seeking a unique and immersive experience.

Sustainability has been at the heart of Wray Valley’s ethos from the outset. Michelle, with an MSc in Environmental Sustainability, wanted to create a retirement project that exemplified her passion for conservation and biodiversity. Their dedication to preserving the local ecosystem has resulted in the creation of a flourishing woodland habitat, recognised by the coveted Green Tourism Gold Award earlier in 2023.

Kevin and Michelle’s commitment to local sourcing is reflected in their selection of beers, ciders, wines and spirits, which features exclusively Devon-based small and artisan producers. Moreover, guests are treated to home-cooked delights for breakfast and dinner, showcasing the region’s culinary delights.

Wray Valley’s newest development is the Sustainability Trail, an informative and engaging experience designed to educate visitors on their eco-friendly practices and inspire others to embrace sustainability in their daily lives. Open to day-visitors by appointment, as well as campers and B&B guests, the trail promises to enlighten and entertain.

Despite being unable to attend the highly anticipated award ceremony in Plymouth due to a family emergency, Michelle and Kevin remained connected to the event via social media, balancing their unwavering dedication to Wray Valley with their family’s well-being.  They look forward to receiving their awards from the organiser in person at Wray Valley in the near future.

As a Gold winner, Wray Valley will be nominated for the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2025 in the same category. The team eagerly anticipates the opportunity to represent Devon’s thriving tourism industry on the national stage, while continuing to promote ethical, responsible, and sustainable practices within the sector.

Wray Valley is an award-winning B&B and campsite situated in the heart of Dartmoor, run by eco-enthusiasts Kevin and Michelle. With a passion for sustainability and a commitment to local sourcing, Wray Valley offers a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors seeking an authentic, environmentally conscious getaway.
